Another year another show: the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has become a regular event in our lives, just like Netflix and Moday lazyness.

A cool tradition that we made our own by passionately reviewing it each year, and you already know our winning recipe: high expectations and lots of impartiality, since it’s missing these days... I mean, have we ever disappointed you?

Un altro anno un altro show: il Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show è ormai una ricorrenza nelle nostre vite, un pò come Netflix e la pigrizia del lunedì.
Una bella tradizione che noi di #TEB abbiamo saputo fare nostra, recensendo lo show con passione ogni anno, e voi già conoscete la nostra ricetta vincente: grandi aspettative e una buona dose di obiettività, visto che scarseggia oggi giorno...cioè, vi abbiamo mai deluso?

As you remember, last year we had not very sweet words for the show, as both the collection and the casting presentation failed to live up to the expectations: indeed the 2015 show managed to score its lowest ratings ever. #ouch.

However let’s forget that and move on, because new year new show: let’s start this "expectations vs reality" review of the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show!!

Come ricorderete, l'anno scorso non abbiamo trattato lo show con i guanti di velluto, visto che sia la collezione che la presentazione non sono riusciti a soddisfare le alte aspettative del pubblico: non a caso lo show del 2015 ha ottenuto il più basso tasso di ascolti nella storia del brand. #ahia

Tuttavia dimentichiamo il passato e guardiamo avanti, perchè anno nuovo significa nuovo show: iniziamo senza indugio questa recensione in stile "aspettative vs realtà" del Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2016!!

This year show, which won't air until December the 5th on CBS, was recorded today (Nov. 30) in Paris at the Grand Palais, the biggest (and most beautiful) venue the show could ever have.

It’s not clear why the show was moved from NYC to Paris, but let’s just assume that they were looking for the wow-factor.

Victoria’s Secret was definitely focused on bringing back its old glamour as it kissed the led-runway goodbye, to favour its famous glitter runway…

Lo show di quest'anno, che andrà in onda il 5 Dicembre sulla CBS, è stato registrato oggi (30 Novembre) a Parigi, presso il Grand Palais, la più grande (e maestosa) location che lo show potesse mai avere.
Non è ben chiaro il motivo per cui lo show sia stato trasferito da New York a Parigi, ma facciamo finta che il brand abbiano cercato l'effetto sorpresa.
Victoria's Secret si è dimostrata determinata a restaurare la suo lato glorioso, non a caso a rinunciato alla tecnologica passerella led, per riproporci la sua iconica passerella glitterata...

However, the heart of the show is not about locations or runways’ engineering, isn't it? It's (or at least should be) all about the models and the lingerie… so how about those?

Tuttavia l'anima dello show non riguarda location da urlo o le impalcature delle passerelle: il vero focus (o almeno così dovrebbe essere) sono le modelle e la lingerie...quindi, che ne dite se parliamo di quello?

First thing to notice is that the number of models in the show has risen again: last year record of 47 girls (15 angels + 32 models) has been overtaken, with 50 models (12 angels + 38 models) walking down the runway this year. A huge figure, which we consider excessive and even harmful for the brand, given that the added models would only take exposure away from the brand's ambassadors (aka the Angels).

La prima cosa fa evidenziare è che il numero delle modelle ingaggiate per lo show si è innalzato nuovamente: il record di 47 modelle per lo show dell'anno scorso è stato battuto dalle 50 modelle ingaggiate per lo show 2016. Un numero non indifferente, che a nostro parere suona eccessivo se non dannoso per il brand stesso, visto che le modelle aggiunte non faranno altro che distogliere l'attenzione dalle testimonial ufficiali del marchio (ovvero gli "angeli").

The casting choice was also questionable:

• only 6 black models and 3 Asian girls amongst too many forgettable and look-a-like girls (how many blonde models do they need actually?). 
• and obviously the holy insta-trio (Kendall Jenner-Gigi Hadid-Bella Hadid), who (needless to say) got the show only thanks to their connections and countless followers. 

Not forget to mention that both Kendall and Gigi were not even asked to attend the castings, while modeling goddess like Cindy Bruna or Joan Smalls not only had to attend them, but also explain their work-out routine to the casting director. Scenes.
Speaking about social media popularity: Irina Shayk has (finally) made it to the show for the first time at the age of 30, after having been rejected in the past. We are positive that Irina's hotness fits Victoria's Secret, but why did they call her only this year? The power of social networks, of course.

The Road Ahead: "Inspired by embracing a multicultural dialogue about the tecniques, the colors, the fabrics, all forming something that's very unique to our universe" (?). It was a predictable mess: too much was going on in the majority of the outfits, therefore the segment ended up looking like a chaotic carnival.
The Road Ahead: "si ispira al dialogo multiculturale, dove tecniche, colori e tessuti si fondono in qualcosa di unico per il nostro universo" (?) Un disastro annunciato: la maggior parte delle creazioni presentavano fin troppi elementi che hanno trasformato il segmento in carnevale.

Secret Angel & Dark Angel: The model of Secret Angel was described as "a seductress that holds no prisoners, a strong entity", while the model of Dark Angel was described as "super-sexy dark seductress". Basically the same theme and it got a bit boring. Also, Secret Angel's looks didn't look very cohesive.

Secret Angel & Dark Angel: La modella del segmento Secret Angel è stata descritta come "una seduttrice che non fa prigionieri, una presenza molto forte", mentre la modella del segmento Dark Angel è stata definita "una seduttrice super sexy ed oscura". Praticamente lo stesso tema, che alla lunga annoia. Per di più i look di Secret Angel mancavano di uniformità.

Bright Night Angel: Described as "the idea of the girl who is happy to have the best time she can", it was probably the most successful segment: classy, without being over the top nor boring. Indeed both the Fantasy Bra and the Swarovski outfit were featured in this segment.

Bright Night Angel: Descritto come "l'idea di una ragazza che felice di divertirsi", è stato forse il segmento meglio riuscito di tutto lo show: di classe, senza eccessi e senza annoiare. Non a caso in questo segmento sono stati inclusi il preziosissimo Fantasy Bra ed il look firmato Swarovski. 

Mountain Romance: The model of Mountain Romance was described as "a Heidi on the heels" in other words a bavarian waitress at the Oktoberfest. I'm missing what the feather-wings had to do with these outfits.

Mountain Romance: La modella del segmento Mountain Romance definita come una "Heidi sui tacchi a spillo", altro non era se non una cameriera bavarese all'Oktoberfest. Ancora non capiamo l'utilità delle ali piumate in questo segmento.

PINK Nation: it was inspired by the street style and the intention was to bring sports references, without literally being gym wear. It could have worked out really well,...but it didn't. Imagine mixing any Yeezy collection (they are all the same) with the latest Fenty x Puma collection...then painting everything pink: what you get is the PINK Nation segment. Most of the time you couldn't even understand what Victoria's Secret was trying to sell from those looks.

PINK Nation: il segmento è ispirato allo street style, con l'intenzione di inserire allusioni allo sport senza sfociare nel banale look da palestra. Poteva essere un successo...ma ovviamente no. Immaginate di combinare una qualsiasi delle collezioni Yeezy x Adidas (tanto sono tutte uguali) con l'ultima collezione Fenty x Puma...poi colorate tutto di rosa: ecco PINK Nation. Il più delle volte risultava complesso capire cosa cercasse di venderci Victoria's Secret.

Any good show needs good music, don’t you agree?

This year Victoria’s Secret pleasantly surprised us with a high-end trio: Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and The Weeknd.

Ogni spettacolo che si rispetti ha bisogno di buona musica, siete d'accordo? 
Quest'anno Victoria'a Secret ci ha piacevolmente stupito con un trio d'eccezione: Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars e The Weeknd.
As no official video has surfaced yet, let’s just enjoy some facts & rumors.
Visto che non sono ancora disponibili i video ufficiali, godiamoci qualche indiscrezione.

Lady Gaga brought her complelling Joanne album to the show, first performing the graceful ballad "Million Reasons" during the Mountain Romance segment, then singing and dancing (in killer-heels) a medley of "A-YO" & "John Wayne" during the Dark Angel segment.

Lady Gaga ha portato in scena il suo nuovo album Joanne, prima esibendosi con la raffinata "Million Reasons" durante il segmento Mountain Romance, poi cantando e ballando (su tacchi vertiginosi) un medley dei singoli "A-YO" & "John Wayne" durante il segmento Dark Angel.

The Weeknd's new dark sound was a perfect match for Secret Angel segment, where he performed his new album title track, Starboy.
Il nuovo sound di The Weeknd è stato un abbinamento perfetto per il segmento Secret Angel, dove ha cantato la hit che da il nome al suo nuovo album, Starboy.

Bruno Mars brought some spark to the youthful Pink Nation segment [wearing a suit and a big brown (faux) fur] with "Chunky ", then closed the entire show in party-mode by performing his catchy hit "24k Magic" during the Bright Night segment (the stage was also re-named "Studio Victoria" as discoball were displayed in the background).
Bruno Mars ha portato un pò di brio nel segmento Pink Nation cantando "Chunky " [e indossando un elegante completo sotto ad una enorme (eco)pelliccia marrone], poi ha chiuso l'intero show in modalità festa esibendosi con la sua accattivante hit "24k Magic" per il segmento Bright Night (per l'occasione il palco è stato rinominato "Studio Victoria" mentre delle palle da discoteca facevano da sfondo).

At this point we can say that overall the 2016 Victoria's Secret Show deserves a C+ for the final presentation (far better than last year, still not as good as it should be) and an A+ for music and venue.
A questo punto possiamo dire che complessivamente il Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2016 merita un 6 per la presentazione finale (meglio dell'anno scorso, ma non ancora bella come dovrebbe) e un 8 per musica e location.
