Once Rosie Huntington-Whiteley said "All the actresses are taking over modelling with all their endorsements and magazine covers, so I’m going the other way!".
It was 2011, Rosie had just had her first part in a movie, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, replacing Megan Fox.

Back then, she noticed a tendency which has enormously expanded in the following years and today it is the reality of the fashion business: celebrites has taken over the fashion industry, playing the roles of models, designers and even photographers.
But there is one big problem: the majority of them lack of predisposition, talent and competence to work in the fashion industry.
Just look at these two Chanel campaigns, one portraying a model (Gisele Bündchen) and the other portraying an actress (Kristen Stewart). You don't need to be a fashion expert to notice the profound difference of quality between them. And the reason for such a big difference is simple: one is doing her job, the other isn't.

But today, if you are famous (= you have a lot of followers), you can work in the fashion industry without having any capability. Even a reality shows personality with no aptitude nor knowledge can become a model, a designer and a photographer. All the same time. At twenty.
Always more often we read headlines about celebrities with the right connections getting more jobs in the fashion industry:
Ma oggi, se una persona è famosa (= ha molti follower), questo le basta per lavorare nell'industria della moda, senza tuttavia averne le capacità . Addirittura un personaggio di un reality show può diventare modella, stilista e fotografa. Tutto nello stesso momento. A vent'anni.

Yes, they've written that for real. If you can take a winning selfie, then you can shoot fashion editorials for the biggest fashion magazines. So drop your photography studies and start taking as many selfies as you can. Maybe Katie Grand will notice you.
What if you are studying fashion design? In this case just ask yourself if you are able to match the extravagance level of the legwarmers designed by Gigi Hadid. If the answer is 'yes', then you might be ready to send your portfolio to Tommy Hilfiger.

But let's say you don't want to become either a photographer or a designer; there is still one way to enter the meritocratic world of fashion: becoming a model.
Kendall Jenner has now turned into a model scout as well and she is looking for this generation next icon, via Instagram and Twitter.
This time I'm not even against it. I mean, who knows it better than Kendall Jenner if you can become the next generation's icon by posting unremarkable photos on Instagram?
Next step? She will probably be recruiting photographers.

Fashion is a form of art. The designers are real artists, who feel content when they show their unique creations to the people who are willing and able to understand their message... Or at least this is what I used to think.
Today I feel like this has gone missing. One by one, fashion brands and magazines has surrendered to the power of followers, to the detriment of quality. Directors and editors just want to reach the biggest undefined audience to make more money. I can't catch any passion, emotion or talent, just business.
But I keep asking myself: how can a field founded on the talent of numerous talentuous professionals can settle for such mediocrity? How can people appreciate anything that greedy fashion directors and editors are trying to sell them with the help of unfit celebrities?

One of the highlights of the night has to be Diane Von Furstenberg presenting Beyoncé with the Fashion Icon Award: the superstar took the stage in an eye-catching Givenchy outfit and made a touching speech about her family and the power of fashion.
Among the past Fashion Icon honorees we have Rihanna, Pharrell Williams, Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga, Iman, Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker and Nicole Kidman.
Read Beyonce’s full speech:
“I feel so much love and I feel so proud right now. Thank you guys for this incredible honor. As long as I can remember, fashion has always been a part of my life. Its effect on me actually started before I was born. Most of you guys don’t know this but my grandmother was a seamstress. My grandparents did not have enough money and could not afford my mother’s Catholic school tuition, so my grandmother sewed clothes for the priests and the nuns, and made uniforms for the students in exchange for my mother’s education. She then passed this gift down to my mother and taught her how to sew.
When we were starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels didn’t really want to dress four black, country, curvy girls. And we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and creativity to giver her children their dreams. My mother and my Uncle Johnny, God bless his soul, designed all of our first costumes and made each piece by hand, individually sewing hundreds of crystals and pearls, putting so much passion and love into ever small detail. When I wore these clothes on stage I felt like Khaleesi. I had an extra suit of armor. It was so much deeper than any brand name.
My mother — who’s so fabulous and beautiful and is here tonight, I love you — my grandmother, and my uncle were always with me so I could not fail. My mother actually designed my wedding dress, my prom dress, my first CFDA Awards dress, my first Grammy dress, and the list goes on and on and this to me is the true power and potential of fashion. It’s a tool for finding your own identity, expression, and strength. It transcends style and is a time capsule of all of our greatest milestones. So to my mother, my uncle, my grandma, thank y’all. Thank you for showing me that having a presence is far more than the clothes you wear and your physical beauty. Thank you for showing me to never take no for an answer. Thank you for showing me how to take risks, work hard, and live life on my own terms.
I want to say thank you to every designer who works tirelessly to make people feel like they can write their own stories. Y’all are fairy godmothers, magicians, sculptors, and sometimes even therapists. I encourage you to not forget this power you have or take it lightly. We have an opportunity to contribute to a society where any girl can look at a billboard or magazine cover and see her own reflection. Soul has no color, no shape, no form. Just like all your work it goes so far beyond what the eyes can see. You have the power to change perception, to inspire and empower, to show people how to embrace their complications and flaws and see the true beauty that’s inside all of us. Thank you so much for this incredible award I’ll never forget this night. Got bless y’all.”
These words are truly inspiring, we appreciate that she took that moment to thank all the people that worked hard to support her career. Isn't this a true Queen?
Ok, let's not forget the purpose of this article: what about the red carpet?
Best Dressed
Beyoncé in Givenchy
Demure, elegant, classic, costumy...call it as you want it, but this look to us is a win.
We all were expecting the next sheer embellished gown, but Beyoncé surprised all of us in a crystals-embellished Givenchy suit.
The hat is a reminder of the Lemonade's era, as well as a smart advertise for her Formation World Tour.
Fashion as a communication tool: the queen slayed again.
Elsa Hosk in Naeem Khan, Shanina Shaik in Givenchy, Jessica Hart in The Row
Elsa Hosk stole our hearts wearing a custom Naeem Khan gold jumpsuit.
This look could have easily looked messy, if overstyled: fortunately this is not the case, because at the end of the day it's not simple to deal with net, sheer patterns, metallic emebellishments and fringes at the same time!
The new Victoria's Secret angel completed her look with statement earrings, light make-up and elegant waves.
Australian beauty Shanina Shaik opted for something less flashy, as she wore a light Givenchy dress. At first sight it felt too simple for the occasion, but it is impossible to not appreciate the proportion, the silhouette, the cuts and drapes of this beautiful design. Shanina styled her outfit with a dainty necklace, which matched the triangular shaped cut-outs of the dress, Tamara Mellon sandals with clear vinyl inserts and a fur Lanvin purse.
Jessica Hart was all about minimal designs last night, as she wore a three piece silk ensemble and Alexandre Birman 'Clarita' velvet sandals.
Worst Dressed
Taylor Hill in Thakoon, Constance Jablonski in J. Mendel, Adriana Lima in Marc Jacobs
It hurts to see such beautiful women wearing expensive looks that do nothing for their figure: let's get a closer look...
First we have Taylor Hill in what we could easily describe as Granny-chic or Hamish couture: this Thakoon's design definitely needed a bit more drama.
Costance Jablonski seems to have borrowed Taylor's stylist for the night: just another beautiful design...by aprons' standards.
Last but not least one of the most beautiful models in the indutry, Adriana Lima, trapped in a Marc Jacobs suit, that simply does nothing for her bombshell figure.

As the tradition goes, after the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show there is the Pink Carpet.
Therefore we couldn't stop our 2015 VSFS coverage at the runway, could we??
Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,

the Balmain collection for H&M is hitting stores and digital shelves!
From Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Iman, Kate Moss, Mariacarla Boscono and Gemma Ward, to Natasha Poly, Adriana Lima, Cara Delevigne, Joan Smalls, Jourdan Dunn & Karlie Kloss: we could go on for hours listing the names of the women that have turned modeling into a real profession, proving to the world that a model can 'run the world', one runway at the time!
While many of these icons and top models are still slaying the show-business with new inspiring projects, a new legion of rising star is born: looking back at the latest fashion week, MsD & I have selected the most sought after models of the SS 16 season.
These girls have managed to stand out on the runways, book the largest number of shows and gain popularity on social media: no instagirls here, let's meet the real models, who have slayed the latest fashion week!
Queen of the international runways, trend-setter, model of the year and new Victoria's Secret Angel: Taylor Hill's star is shining more than ever!
Among her multiple successes we are happy to include this stunning cover story of Numero Russia‘s October 2015 issue, captured by fashion photographer An Le.

Victoria's Secret new angel Taylor Hill has been showing her effortless off-duty look at Fashion Week, serving us different style inspirations.
Personally I loved the cool fur-trimmed jacket she wore after the Roland Mouret show at Paris Fashion Week: the American model let the jacket do the talking as she paired it with black leather shorts, tights, ankle boots and a bright red Saint Laurent shoulder bag.

I would love to thank Joan Smalls to prove us that you don't need complicated outfits to stand out in the crowd!
The Puerto Rican top model borrowed some inspiration from the sportswear department to get ready for the Bottega Veneta show, at Milan Fashion Week: a sporty grey Puma sweatshirt paired with a simple black leather skirt.
The cherry on top? A Chanel shoulder bag and suede black ankle boots.

Victoria's Secret new angel Sara Sampaio made a glamorous (yet fierce) front row appereance at the BCBG by Max Azria SS16 runway show during NYFW: the Portuguese stunner selected a total black outfit, composed by a simple crop top, cropped oversize palazzo trousers, strappy sandals and a ribbed biker jacket, which was the star of the outfit.
The model didn't give up on colors adding a pink Chanel shoulder bag and a rich red lipstick to the ensamble: definitely a look to remember!

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK:
GIVENCHY
Spring/Summer 2016
New York Fashion Week has just started and we already have a stand out show experience: Riccardo Tisci brought Givenchy S/S 2016 Ready-to-wear collection to the American fashion capital, staging an artistical show aimed to celebrate his 10th year at the house.
The event took place at Pier 26 on the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorists attacks, so the designer made sure to build a contemplative yet religious atmosphere, mainly thanks to modern artist Marina Abramović’s contribution: she conceived a living art installation, building the runway set in a multilevel space made of recycled materials, in order to reduce waste, and having performance artists keeping the large audience entertained before the runway show.
To complete the reverential atmosphere, powerful live music from six different religions played in the background, as the models walked down the runway.

As previously mentioned, Tisci conceived the collection as auto referential, therefore he displayed a best of his signature collections at Givenchy: men’s and women’s ready-to-wear looks found their place on the catwalk, as well as some impressive couture pieces.
Models presented austere make-up looks, and occasionally face jewelly or real couture masks as an extension of the clothes design.
Most of the female designs seemed to portray the sensual comfort of lingerie, as testified by the large use of transparent lace and smooth silks: believe us, you will desire a pair of silk pants after seeing the collection.
