Continua l'avventura dei Soul System ad X Factor Italia: la band si aggiudica l'accesso al quarto live, dimostrando ancora una volta di avere la stoffa per arrivare in finale.

La scorsa settimana i ragazzi hanno letteralmente re-inventato in chiave funky la dance hit anni '90 All That She Wants degli Ace Of Base, scatenando sia il pubblico in sala che quello a casa: un'esibizione colorata (grazie anche agli eccentrici outfit realizzati da Pele Francesco Carraro), piena d'energia e qualitativamente eccellente

I giudici si dichiarano rapiti dalla performace, Manuel Agnelli si sbilancia e li definisce già pronti per il mercato discografico, quell'ironico "che ci fate ancora qua?" suona come il migliore dei complimenti.

Mentre i ragazzi si preparano per il quarto live è chiaro che stiamo entrando nel vivo della gara, dove ogni errore costa caro: noi del team #TEB ci auguriamo di vedere i Soul System sul podio finale, perchè hanno tutte carte in regola per sfondare nel mercato musicale.

Giovedì 17 novembre andrà in onda alle 21.15 su Sky Uno il quarto live di XFactor Italia con la prima temutissima doppia eliminazione: dalla preview di XFactor Daily scopriamo che i Soul System "si cimenteranno in un feat. rap che parla di una cacciatrice di dote"...che sia l'iconica R'n'B hit Gold Digger di Kanye West ft Jamie Fox??

Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and The Weeknd at the same event? Ok, where is my ticket!!??

The choice comes as a surprise, even though all of these three major artists have a new album/single to promote: Lady Gaga would bring out her new country vibe to the show thanks to her new album Joanne, while Bruno Mars would definitely make us dance to his 24k catchy hit, and The Weeknd would take us to his enchanting Starboy's galaxy.

Each one of them would grace the stage two times, since the show is composed of 6 thematic segments.

As we previously told you: the show will be held in Paris on November 30, and broadcasted on CBS on December 5.

La scelta è stata una piacevole sorpresa, anche se effettivamente questi tre grandissimi artisti hanno tutti un nuovo album/singolo da promuovere: Lady Gaga porterà delle vibrazioni country grazie al suo nuovo album Joanne, mentre sicuramente Bruno Mars ci farà ballare con la sua nuova hit 24k ed infine The Weeknd ci teletrasporterà nello spazio con la sua galattica Starboy.
Ognuno di loro si esibirà due volte, infatti lo show è diviso in sei segmenti tematici.
Quindi, come abbiamo già detto, segnatevi queste date: lo show si svolgerà a Parigi in 30 novembre, mentre sarà trasmesso dalla CBS il 5 dicembre.

I Soul System inaugurano la 10ma edizione di X Factor Italia con un'esplosiva interpretazione di Holy Grail, la celebre hit firmata Jay Z ft Justin Timberlake: dopo l'intro di Marco Mengoni, sembra quasi impossibile pensare ai ragazzi come a dei semplici concorrenti...che siano gli ospiti internazionali? 

Nel nostro articolo precedente avevamo evidenziato l'esigenza di riscatto per la band veneto-lombarda, che dopo il provvidenziale ripescaggio, portava sulle spalle un fardello piuttosto importante: dimostrare che quel palco lo meritavano fin dall'inizio e che ovviamente gareggiano per vincere.

La performance andata in onda giovedì 27 ottobre su SkyUno brilla per autenticità riuscendo a far battere il cuore anche ai più scettici: i Soul System dimostrano non solo di meritare il palco di X Factor, ma anche di essere dei validi pretendenti al premio finale.

L'alchimia fra la voce soul di Leslie ed il rap graffiante di Don Jiggy è davvero impressionante, soprattutto quando a sostenere l'energia della performance ci sono tre musicisti estremamente dotati come David Yeboah al basso, Alberto Patuzzo alla batteria e Joel Ainoo alle tastiere. 

Oltre all'energia che portano sul palco, ciò che colpisce dei Soul System è la coesione: osservandoli si nota come la delusione degli home visit, seguita dalle gioie del ripescaggio, abbiano avuto un effetto terapeutico sul gruppo. Rinati dalle proprie ceneri come una fenice, i Soul System hanno infiammato il palco di X Factor con una sicurezza che di rado si vede in giro.

A darci ragione sono anche gli stessi commenti dei giudici: dallo stupore di Manuel Agnelli, che li loda per aver aperto lo show senza paura, con una performance notevole che evidenzia la loro unione come gruppo, all'entusiamo di Fedez per l'equilibrato mix rap/soul; anche Alvaro Soler si dimostra più fiducioso nelle potenzialità dei Soul System, riconoscendo l'effetto coinvolgente che sanno infondere nel pubblico.

Prova superata con lode anche sul fronte fashion, dove l'anima urban della band viene enfatizzata dalla street-couture dei capi OMAR Haus e dagli anelli firmati Alberto Gallinari. L'interessante gioco di contrapposizioni sui toni del bianco e del nero, presente sui capi indossati dai Soul System, si riflette anche sulla stessa scenografia, che si tinge a festa solo nella parte finale dell'esibizione.

Un'esibizione da urlo che ci lascia con il fiato sospeso per il prossimo live di X Factor, in onda giovedì 3 novembre sempre su SkyUno!

Il loro sogno ha avuto inizio dalla loro “base”, ovvero la Warmsound Records, nata originariamente come Warmsound studios: uno studio di registrazione in cui ognuno collaborava per interessi lavorativi.

I Soul System nascono dalla volontà di tutti e cinque di inglobare le proprie esperienze personali musicali ed artistiche per stravolgere il panorama musicale sia italiano che mondiale. Il loro sound ha la capacità di adattarsi a qualsiasi genere, ma l’impronta è prettamente Soul/Hip-Hop/Pop.

Le influenze forti che hanno partecipato alla creazione del sound marchiato Soul System, per alcuni dei componenti, sono state la musica reggae (Bob Marley), la musica Pop (Michael Jackson), la musica jazz/RnB e l'appartenenza alle diverse comunità africane cristiane pentecostali, che hanno permesso di aggiungere quella nota gospel africana e creativa, che rende questo sound nuovo, originale e fresco.

“Energia” e “Carisma” sono sicuramente gli aggettivi più adatti a descrivere i Soul System.
Nonostante siano nati come gruppo solo nel 2015, i ragazzi sono riusciti fin da subito a portare a casa grandi risultati, esibendosi nelle location più importanti d’Italia come l’ambito Hotel Seven Star di Milano e l’esposizione universale EXPO 2015, ma anche partecipando agli eventi sponsorizzati dall’ Hotel Luxury Magna Pars.

Con risultati del genere non è difficile sognare in grande: eccoli quindi sul palco di X Factor Italia, popolare format musicale giunto alla decima edizione.

Dopo aver stupito i quattro giudici ( Fedez, Alvaro Soler, Manuel Agnelli, Arisa) alle audizioni, con una cover rielaborata di "Empire State Of Mind" (Jay-Z ft Alicia Keys), i Soul System si sono fatti strada nel lungo processo di selezione fino agli Home Visit nella calda Barcellona, dove hanno giocato il tutto per tutto per convincere Alvaro Soler  (giudice della categoria gruppi) che il palco di X Factor aspetta solo loro.
Tuttavia la puntata andata in onda ieri sera su Sky Uno, ci ha mostrato come nulla fosse dato per scontato per i ragazzi: la loro versione raggae di "E la luna bussò" di Loredana Bertè non convince Alvaro Soler, che definendoli poco internazionali li elimina.


Lo stupore nel web è tangibile...ma quando tutto sembra perduto ecco il miracolo divino: uno dei gruppi selezionati da Alvaro Soler (i Jarvis) decide di abbandonare la gara ad un passo dai live, spianando la strada ai Soul System, che tramite ripescaggio tornano a sognare le luci della ribalta.

Un finale a sorpresa, che accende la gara vera; infatti giovedì 27 ottobre andrà in onda su SkyUno il primo live di X Factor e per i Soul System la posta in gioco è davvero alta: oltre a lottare per il premio finale, i ragazzi dovranno dimostrare che quel palco doveva essere loro fin dall'inizio!
Preparati X Factor, perchè un gruppo così non lo hai mai visto!

It was not my intention to watch live anyother MTV awards show since they have become so predictable and lame, but this year‘s lineup was something you cannot miss: Beyoncè, Rihanna & Britney Spears, the women I grew up with.

So I did it, I woke up in the middle of the night (time zones are sooo funny #sarcasm) tuned on MTV and watched. 

How was it?  Not bad thanks to the performers that I have mentioned.

Here is the top 5 moments of the night:

Rihanna & the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award

It was Rihanna’s night (on the paper): the barbadian superstar was meant to receive a career tribute award so a performance was needed. The badgal we know and love didn’t go for a long medley of her hit, nope she broke the rules and performed 4 times throughout the show. A cool idea, given all the outfit she wore: the vocal performances were good as long as little movements were included from her side, while the more physical ones were more fun to watch (than listen).
[I am being honest, as you know I went to her concert in Milan last month, and as a fan I love everything she does, even if she is not always perfect live].

Cherry on top, on her last beautiful performance Drake showed up, basically declaring his love for her : #LoveBirds !!

Beyoncé & her epic Lemonade medley

As I said it was meant to be Riri’s night…but the  queen showed up and the crowd went crazy.

Beyoncè is the big winner of the night (Best Female Video for "Hold Up"; Breakthrough Long-Form Video Award, Best Direction, Cinematography and Editing for Lemonade, Video of The Year and Best Pop Video for "Formation"), an easy bet since Lemonade is her best album so far, a true masterpiece. She took the stage and slayed it, and for me was like going back to the Formation world tour (which I attended last month…yep, the #TEBcrew has seen also Beyoncè this year!). Basically I turned off the tv after this mind-blowing performance, because nothing would compare: there was fire, cool outfits, amazing dance moves and a baseball bat…yep, the queen broke a camera as in the Hold Up video!

Britney Spears & her comeback performance

The princess of pop is back at what she does best: performing for her fans in sexy outfits (and lipsyncing). It was cool and emotional…however, MTV ended up putting her performance right after Beyoncè. A really shady move. 

Speaking of the positives, Britney was in shape rocking a shiny leotard and matching tigh-high boots (that Las Vegas residency has seriously influenced her wardrobe), all her iconic moves were there so, good job Brit!

Kanye West & his 4 minutes speech

It’s not even funny at this point. 

The rapper took the stage to present his new video Fade (available only on TIDAL) e, which stars the beautiful and toned Teyana Taylor and BTW is a cool remake of Flashdance (except for the wtf last 30 seconds). However instead of introducing the video and maybe saying a few words about the song…he said "FIRST IMMA TALK" #PleaseNo

4 minutes of nothing, where he kind of talked about his provocative Famous video, his genius (yes, again) and Taylor Swift: I guess no one actually understood (or needed) his monologue, except maybe for his wife Kim Kardashian who smiled the all time. 

Ariana Grande ft Nicki Minaj vs The gym

A pink workout-inspired performance for miss Grande, who premiered her new reggae-tinged single Side to Side with Nicki Minaj, wich BTW is one of my favourite songs from her new album Dangerous Woman. The performance was cool, the choreography was fun to watch, even though IMO Grande’s beautiful voice suffered at one point given the many movements required by the choreography.

We got used to her sexy performances on FOX's tv drama Empire, as the fierce Tiana, but thanks to the Teen Choice Awards we finally got a glimpse of what Serayah McNeill is capable of also in real life.

The young actress took the stage during yestarday's TCA 2016 to perform for the first time the single LBDT (Look But Don't Touch) from Empire season 2 soundtrack: as if we needed another reason to love this catchy dance floor anthem!

Dressed in a shimmery pink outfit and white sneakers, Serayah showed some serious dance moves: set this video on loop if you want to learn them!

She made us hold our breath for a week…but was it worth it?

Hell, yes!

Last night Beyoncé managed to outdone herself once again by debuting her latest music project, LEMONADE.

The star tapped HBO for an unconventional presentation that is a one-hour film to reveal Lemonade as a visual album: forget the homonymous 2013’s album, because this time Ms Carter took her time to present a more cohesive project aimed to explore her private life and inner struggles.

This is no doubt a very intimate and emotional project, where Beyoncè publically addresses the dark moments of her marriage, showcasing her emotional journey. 

“Are you cheating on me?”

With this line addressed to her husband, the visual journey begins: Beyonce’s music becomes a spectrum of her feelings, ranging from denial and anger, to scorn and grief.

In the most emotional segment, the star decides to introduce the social/political undertone, by having mothers Sybrina Fulton and Lesley McFadden holding up pictures of their sons Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown, both killed by the police. Almost a prelude to “Formation,” the political track featured at the end of album, which she performed at the 2016 Super Bowl.

Beyoncè’s journey through heartbreak ends with a redemption: after praising her father for teaching her to be strong, the singer manages to cope with her pain and move on. 

Indeed, the final segment is filled with hope, as the star is finally pictured smiling with her husband and daughter. 

Visually I believe that this is one of the best projects that we have seen in years: the film was directed by Beyoncè, Mark Romanek, Khalil Joseph, Melina Matsoukas, Todd Tourso, Dikayl Rimmasch and Jonas Akerlund.

Tennis champion Serena Williams, model Winnie Harlow, actresses Amandla Stenberg, Quvenzhané Wallis and Zendaya Coleman served beautiful cameos in Lemonade’s visuals, while The Weekend,  James Blake and Kendrik Lamar where featured in the album. 

I can’t say if visual albums will become the new black or just a Beyoncè’s thing, but as music lover I believe that sometimes we need projects like these to remind us the storytelling-power of music.

Some people say they were irritated by these lyrics, some even say they were offended by Beyoncé Super Bowl’s performance, or that Kendrick’s performance at the Grammys was to “black-ish”...

Is this the beginning of a re-education about black history in music? 

This is absolutely not a racist “wannabe” article, but I personally think we should be more conscious of the real issues of our society: equality, respect and tolerance.
History books should have provided us with enough examples of injustices to educate us all for the better, but sometimes it looks like society would never learn from its past mistakes. 

As a proud black man I say that it was about time that black musicians/artists started paying attention to the importance of black history in all of its forms.

Indeed it seems like there is still a feud for black people: even if we cast away the violent episodes we heard in the news, we are aware of how harder it is for a black person to reach a remarkable position in the society. Take for example what is happening in Hollywood, with the lack of roles for black actors, or in the fashion industry, with the lack of diversity on the runways.

Therefore we need famous artists, like the ones mentioned above, to use their craft to convey a much larger message of hope and not violence, a message aimed to empower young people about their identity, in order to prevent them from being ashamed of who they are.

I say “BLACK LIVES MATTER”.
